I qualified and began my teaching career in 1999. Since then I have worked in mainstream state & private schools as well as in special schools. I have experience of working with children with a range of special educational needs.
Since 2012, I have worked solely as a one-to-one tutor, focussing on teaching English and Maths across all ages to GCSE.
Every student has their own unique learning style, which is why I tailor my teaching methods to suit them. I like to use many different approaches in a tutoring session to keep attention focused and help students see things in different ways. These might include computer programs, apps and games, in addition to more traditional methods. I use clear explanations for new concepts and encourage study skills as well as revision and exam techniques.
More information about the tuition I provide and my philosophy can be found here.
In addition to working for private individuals, I am also employed by local primary schools, secondary schools and local authority agencies, to provide home tuition to children.
Although not a requirement for private tutors, my work for schools means that, in common with all school teachers, I need a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check - these were formerly know as CRB checks. For your own peace of mind, my latest certificate can be made available if you wish to see it.
